Jan Daugherty is an accomplished violist, violinist, and Suzuki educator with more than thirty years of professional performing and teaching experience. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from The Juilliard School, where she studied with the renowned violist Lillian Fuchs, one of the most respected teachers of her generation.

For sixteen years, Jan served as Assistant Principal Violist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra before continuing her distinguished orchestral career as Assistant Principal Violist with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra, where she performed until her retirement in 2012.

Throughout her career, Jan has enjoyed performing as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, and solo recitalist while sharing her passion for music through teaching. A certified Suzuki teacher of both violin and viola, she has taught students in Charlotte and western North Carolina for many years, helping young musicians develop strong technical skills, beautiful tone, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

At Wild Roots Fine Arts Academy, Jan enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities, encouraging each one to grow with patience, confidence, and a love for making music. She and her husband, David, a professional trumpet player, make their home near Chesnee, South Carolina.
